Chico police arrested a woman Monday morning for allegedly attempting to abduct two children from strollers near the downtown City Plaza.

Police responded to a domestic dispute on Broadway Street just after 10 a.m. and found a woman running eastbound on 4th Street from Main Street. Police detained her near Flume Street moments later.

A subsequent investigation revealed that the woman, 44-year-old Rebecca Ware had attempted to kidnap a child from a woman on Broadway Street, then tried to abduct another child on Flume Street shortly after.

Both of the children were in strollers, the first parent managed to pull the stroller away from Ware. The second parent was assisted by an alert citizen, who tackled Ware to the ground.

The parents and children were uninjured in the incidents.

Police caught up with Ware on the 300 block of Flume Street, she was arrested and then booked into the Butte County Jail for attempted kidnapping.
