A popular Chico wedding venue has been shut down after neighbors say they were forced to sue in court.
A group of residents calling themselves the "Kennedy Muir" group, got a Butte County Judge in May to issue a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction forcing the Creek Haven Vineyard to stop hosting weddings until the legal battle can be sorted out.
According to a complaint obtained by Action News Now, the association claims Creek Haven Vineyards is holding weddings without proper permits and in violation of land use zoning for the area.
Creek Haven held 13 weddings at the six-acre Kennedy Avenue location last year.
The land is zoned for agriculture and rural residential use and residents say the weddings have created major traffic and noise nuisances.
The owners of Creek Haven claim their weddings create no more of a nuisance than the numerous farming operations in the area.
The issue is headed back to court in November.
