North State residents will want to watch their water usage as new regulations are set to take effect in just a few days.
Starting June 1, customers will face fines for over-watering. In Chico, watering will be allowed three days per week and never between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. There will also be a water budget based on a household's water usage in 2013.
Cal Water says they are still waiting on set rules for pools and spas.
Fines will begin with a written notice, but a third violation could get you a $1000 fine, and after four violations water companies can shut off service.
The mandate is in effect through February 2016, but could be extended. Cal Water is required to meet the 32 percent reduction by February, or the state could fine them $10,000 per day.
Cal Water officials say customers can file an appeal if their situation has changed since 2013, or if they feel their water budget is too low.
Cal Water also offers customers a variety of rebate programs and water conservation kits. You can learn about them here.
