Students all over Chico were thinking "pink" today to help curb bullying. Every school in the district participated by having students and faculty wear pink shirts. Kids and staff members we spoke with at Emma Wilson Elementary say bullying awareness is a lot higher now that schools are addressing the problem and educating students.
“They know how to recognize a bullying situation. They know what to do, and that they have different options. So that helps them feel empowered. It also helps with their empathy, feeling for other people, and asking themselves what would they want someone to do if they were being bullied,” says school guidance aid Geri Dean.
Emma Wilson Elementary will also be holding a special anti-bullying assembly for students on Friday.
