Students at Parkview Elementary School in Chico hit the track Friday to try and raise $17,000.

Students ran as many laps as they could in 30 minutes, their goal being to raise funds for an outdoor center that complements their curriculum. Last year's revenue from the race funded the project's initial stages, this years could complete the project.

Parkview Principal Joann Bettencourt said the run is the best event of the year, one the student's always look forward to. "They've been talking about it for days and they've been so excited. One of the classes has challenged the other classes to dress up and you'll see some of the older kids dressed up in crazy hair and too-toos and they love it. It's just a great community event."
