Saturday was a rugby day in Chico.
The Chico State University rugby club hosted U-C Santa Cruz in a scrimmage.
The Wildcats finished second in their league and made the playoffs last year. They were eliminated in the first round of the post season.
This year, the club is hoping to build from that experience and go much further.
”We have a lot of new players we're at about 40 on our roster which is huge for us; we usually have a roster of about 25,” said Chico State women’s rugby coach Mary Triantafyllou. “We have a lot of vets returning and we’re mixing that in with a lot of talented rookies.”
The Chico State women’s rugby club will play next week during the Chico Holiday Classic. They start league play in February.
