The Chico State women's basketball team defeats Simpson University - an NAIA school out of Redding - 78-62 in a non-conference match Saturday night at Acker Gym.
The victory increased Chico State's record to 8-9 on the season. Despite their 3-8 conference mark, the Wildcats are in a four-way tie for ninth place, just a half-game out of the eighth and final CCAA Championship Tournament berth.
Simpson University fell to 7-13 overall.
Brooke Bowen paced the Wildcat attack, scoring a season-high 17 points with five rebounds and five assists. Natalie Valenzuela added 16 points and 8 rebounds while McKena Barker tallied her fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Chico State shot 50 percent from the floor (30-for-60) and outrebounded Simpson 45-28.
The visitors were led by Esther Wofford who went off for 28 points with 8 rebounds, five assists, and five steals. Anderson High product Fallon Greenhaw added 15 points.
