Chico State Students Start Moving into Dorms

Chico State is bustling with activity again as thousands of incoming freshmen have started moving into the dorms. On Tuesday, hundreds of students and parents packed in their vehicles along Legion Avenue to unload. Chico State officials say the 8 residence halls are at full capacity. Meaning, roughly 2,100 incoming freshmen are expected to settle in to the campus this week. Fortunately, there are plenty of upper classmen and student organizations on hand to make for a smooth transition.

Jennifer Simmons made the trip out from Phoenix, Arizona with her parents today.

"It's really organized. There's a lot of people here to help and the carts are definitely helpful for getting things up the elevator," she says.

With a 30 minute time limit to unload and getting everything moved, students have to manage their time well to get in and out and make way for the next wave. Once it's all said and done, it's time for the parents to say goodbye and let their kids tough it out on their own.

Around 16, 600 students are expected to attend Chico State this fall. That's up a hundred students from this time last year. People driving along Warner Street should plan on brief delays through Thursday as students continue to move.
