Chico State student transferred to San Jose hospital

Chico State student Diego Rodriguez has been transferred to Kaiser Permanente located in San Jose after being in serious condition at Enloe Medical Center.

Rodriguez was the driver of a fatal accident that happened on Sunday, January 27th on Bidwell Avenue west of Rose Avenue, Rodriguez was traveling westbound when he lost control of his 1998 BMW crashing into the Big Chico Creek, killing 20 year old Chico State student Austin Silver at the scene.

Rodriguez was arrested for driving under the influence but was released for treatment.

19 year old Bryant Mata, who was another passenger in the car was taken to Enloe Medical Center, where he died two days later from his injuries.

The Alcohol Beverage Control is conducting their own investigation on how Rodriguez obtained alcohol earlier that night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Rodriguez is facing a felony DUI and could face vehicular manslaughter for the deaths of two Chico State students.
