Chico State Student Starts 'Your Safe Ride Home' Program

One Chico State student is doing his part to make sure his peers are getting home safe, free of charge.

Matthew Riebe saw a need for safe and free rides for Chico State students during the university's "Call to Action" last spring.

Riebe uses a Facebook page to connect his program, called "Your Safe Ride Home" with his peers.

You can let him know when and where you need a ride, and he'll come grab you in his Ford Taurus, even equipped with water bottles.

“We have these blue light systems, but they stop at twelve,” Riebe said. “My program is trying to fill in the void and potentially save someone's life between the hours of twelve and four on Thursdays through Saturdays.”

Riebe eventually wants to see his program turned into a non-profit organization.

He starts his second weekend of giving free rides tonight at midnight.
