A Chico State student is receiving the highest honor from the CSU board of trustees, and he's the first one from the university to get the award. Tim Sain is being honored with the Ali Razi award, a $10,000 scholarship given to students that have overcome adversity and excelled in academics. Sain battled drug addiction for several years before moving his wife and three kids to the north state to pursue a masters degree in hopes of becoming a teacher.
"Chico's given me so much. It's given me everything I need to succeed here, more than i could ask for, and it continues to give. So it's definitely an honor to represent Chico for this award," he says.
Sain will travel to Long Beach next Tuesday to receive his award along with award winners from other CSU campuses across the state.
