Chico State's food services praised

California State University, Chico's dining services are getting high praise from a national magazine. Chico State, along with UC Berkeley, Duke, Yale, Oberlin and University of Washington are some of the schools highlighted in a article rating university and college cafeterias for quality and sustainability.

The article, dubbed "12 of the Most Healthy and Sustainable College Cafeterias", mentions the Marketplace Café, located in the BMU, which offers local, organic and vegetarian food options. The University Farm's organic dairy and waste reduction efforts at the dining halls are also mentioned.

According to the University's Public Affairs Department , the University aspires to offer students and other customers a great selection of high-quality and healthy food and beverages at the dining facilities, coffee shops and convenience stores on campus.", which includes articles from Good Housekeeping on general interest, food, fitness and other topics, receives 1.2 million visitors to its website each month.

In May 2013, Sutter Residential Dining Center won the National Association of College and University Food Service's 2013 Silver Plate Award for outstanding residential dining among midsized universities. The center is run by Chico State's Associated Students Campus Dining Program and University Housing and Food Service.
