A late season surged came up just short for the Chico State men's soccer team.
Needing a victory Saturday against San Francisco State to advance the CCAA Championship Tournament, the Wildcats played the Gators to a 1-1 draw at University Soccer Stadium.
San Francisco State struck first with a goal in the 11th minute. Chico State's Matt Hurlow scored the equalizer in the 53rd minute, the 17th goal of his Wildcats career.
Chico State comes up one point short of locking down a spot in the postseason.
However, the Wildcats certainly have nothing to hang their heads about as they completed the season with a five-match unbeaten streak to to finish at 7-6-4 overall and 5-4-3 in the CCAA.
The Chico State women fared better against San Francisco State on Saturday, shutting out the Gators 3-0.
Goals for the Cats came from Erin Woods, Lindsey Dias and Pooja Patel.
Chico State improves to 12-4-2 overall and 8-3-1 in the CCAA.
With the impressive conference mark, the Chico State women have earned the #2 seed and a first-round bye in the CCAA Championship Tournament. Chico State will play Tuesday's Stanislaus State-Cal State L.A. Winner Friday at 11 a.m. in the conference tournament semifinals at Cal Poly Pomona.
