Chico State men's basketball team drops exhibition game to University of Arizona

The Chico State men's basketball team opened the 2015-2016 season with a 90-54 exhibition loss to University of Arizona Sunday evening at McKale Center.

Tanner Giddings finished with nine points to lead Chico State. Robert Duncan, Jalen McFerren, Tyler Harris and Isaiah Ellis had eight apiece. McFerren added a team-high five rebounds to go along with two assists. Duncan tallied four steals.

Division II Chico State hung with the Pac-12 powerhouse into the second half, trailing 45-37 with 14:45 left.

But Arizona dominated the rest of the way, closing the game - which aired on the Pac-12 network - on a 45-17 run.

Forward Ryan Anderson, a preseason All Pac-12 conference selection, led Arizona with 19 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks.

Chico State will open its regular season schedule Friday at 6 p.m. against Montana State-Billings at the CCAA/GNAC Pioneer Challenge at Cal State East Bay.
