Chico State cross country teams with strong showing at National Championships

The Chico State cross country squads raced to strong finishes at the NCAA Championships Saturday at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri.

The Wildcat women finished in fourth-place, highlighted by Sadie Gastelum, whose 12th-place finish at the NCAA is the highest in Chico State women's cross country history.

McCall Habermehl finished 50th in the 247-runner field, Alex Burkhart 51st, Quetta Peinado 58th, Haley Kroll 89th, Lora James 170th and Olivia Watt 204th.

The Chico State men's team came in sixth-place. Three All-Americans led the way. Juniors Will Reyes 10th and Stephen Martinez 17th, while sophomore Kyle Medina finished 34th.

Aaron Mora finished 69th, and Steven Velarde 150th place. Caton Avilla finished 159th and Connor Fisher 192nd.
