The Chico State community honored slain student Travis Powell Tuesday by flying on-campus flags at half-staff.

22-year-old Travis Powell was killed while attending a house party at Seventh and Oak Streets in Chico Friday night. During the party a fight broke out, several people were shot and stabbed and Powell was killed. No arrests have been made.

Powell was originally from Gridley, and entered Chico State as a freshman in 2011, where he was a criminal justice major.

Professor Darin Haerle, Department of Political Science, said of Travis, "He was a determined student: When faced with a challenge in class, he would always go above and beyond to improve his academic performance. He was very much looking forward to graduation. Travis will be remembered for his love of basketball and his sometimes shy, yet always genuinely friendly, demeanor."
