Chico State baseball team to face Cal Poly Pomona in West Regionals

The Chico State baseball team learned its postseason fate Sunday during the NCAA Championship Tournament Selection Show, and the Wildcats will face a familiar opponent.

Chico State earned the No. 4 seed in the Western Regionals and will take on CCAA Conference foe Cal Poly Pomona, the four-seed, on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Cal-Baptist University in Riverside.

Chico State (35-20) and Cal Poly Pomona (36-17) split their four meetings this season with the most recent being a 6-2 Wildcats victory in the opening round of the CCAA Championship Tournament.

Chico State went onto win the CCAA Championship Tournament to secure the program's 16th NCAA Championship Tournament invitation in the past 21 years.

Thursday, May 19
Game 1 - 11:00 a.m.: No. 2 Dixie State vs. No. 5 Cal State Monterey Bay
Game 2 - 3:00 p.m.: No. 1 California Baptist vs. No. 6 Cal State East Bay
Game 3 - 7:00 p.m.: No. 3 Cal Poly Pomona vs. No. 4 Chico State

Friday, May 20
Game 4 - 11:00 a.m.: Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2
Game 5 - 3:00 p.m.: Winner Game 2 vs. Loser Game 3
Game 6 - 7:00 p.m.: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 3

The remainder of the tournament schedule is determined by the outcomes of May 20 and beyond.

The winner of the six-team, double-elimination tournament will advance to the Division II College World Series May 28-June 4 in Cary, North Carolina.
