The 7th annual Chico Stage Race kicked off at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows on Friday. There are multiple divisions, including amateurs, masters, and even professionals. The professional men's division has more than 100 cyclists, with a purse of $8,000. The professional women's division has 56 competitors and a purse of $3,000.
The Chico Stage Race will continue over the weekend as well. On Saturday riders will tackle the road course in Paskenta, then on Sunday they'll wrap up action with a pair of events. It will start with a River Road Time Trial on the outskirts of Chico, followed by the cyclists finishing up with the Steve Harrison Memorial Downtown Criterium, which will take place in downtown Chico.
Cyclists have come from all over the country and as far as Canada and South America to compete this weekend, making for a very talented and diverse field. Watch the video for more information.
