BREAKING: Chico wins first game at Little League Softball World Series thanks to Philippines forfeit. You're looking at the official press release from the folks at the beautiful softball facility in Portland, Oregon. It reads, "The team from Iloilo Little League from Iloilo Province, Philippines, representing the Asia-Pacific Region in the Little League Softball World Series, was unable to meet the arrival requirements (Visa problems) for teams participating in the tournament. Due to this unforeseen situation, the team will not be able to participate in its first scheduled game on Thursday, August 7th, and as a result will forfeit the game....." So, Chico gets a win, albeit not by the way they had intended, but a win is a win. Coming up tonight on Action News Now in sports, you'll hear from Chico coach Andy Wahl and a couple players as they share their thoughts on this surprising development. Wahl told me he's planning to have his team practice today to keep them fresh as they now look ahead to their second game against Southwest, Saturday at 10:00am.
