Chico sees three suspected gang-related shootings

Chico Police had their work cut this weekend dealing with three shootings all of which thought to be gang related.

The first shooting happened near an apartment complex on W. 1st Ave. Saturday around 10:30 p.m.

About an hour later, a man was shot outside La Salle's night club in downtown Chico. Witnesses say gang-related slurs were yelled at the victim moments before he was shot.

And on Sunday afternoon, several shots were fired at a trailer park on Nord Ave.

Reports later lead police back near the scene of the first shooting on W. 1st Ave. That's where officers removed three males and two semi-automatic handguns from a black Chevy SUV. Taking a closer look, the SUV may look familiar. Last Thursday, our cameras caught the California Highway Patrol pulling over the same vehicle for distracted driving.

During the stop, officers found marijuana on the driver who was a documented gang member. His name: Edgar Olivar, a 19-year-old from Oroville.

Olivar and Jasper Frank Sandoval were taken to Butte County Jail in connection to this weekend's shootings.

A 16-year-old male involved with the shootings was taken to Butte County Juvenile Hall.

Police say all are either affiliated with or are members of a criminal street gang.
