Chico Sandwich Shop Reopens

On the outside things look very different at Kona’s Sandwiches on Main Street in Downtown Chico, but on the inside its back to business as usual after a structural problem forced the sub shop to close for two weeks.
"This morning when it was ten o'clock just pulled the line, pulled the cord and said the open sign is on and got a little applause from the gals that were here working. So, they are just as excited as I am," Kona’s owner Chris Yarbrough said.
Employees were back slicing the fresh deli meat and building foot long subs after contractors finished building a temporary sidewalk and bridge to allow customers access to the restaurant.
Construction crews have already put up temporary supports under the sidewalk after a support wall collapsed more than two weeks ago.
While the look may not be ideal, the sandwich shop’s owner says he's happy that he can begin to put the trying ordeal behind him.
"I'm as excited as can be to do the normal daily routine," Yarbrough said.
In fact, Yarbrough was so excited to reopen he says he didn't really mind staying until the wee hours of the morning making sure he had all the supplies necessary to feed hungry customers.
"It's been so long, it's been 14 days, but we are excited to be back helping people,"
The temporary sidewalk and bridge into Kona's will probably stay in place for the news couple of months while construction crews come up with a permanent fix for the underground support wall.
