The tragedy in Charleston has sent shock waves across the country. Here in the North State, members of the Bethel AME Church in Chico are planning a special service to remember the victims Saturday night.

"The AME Church has always been in the forefront of fighting for what is right and what is just. This is just another case of something that has gone wrong. We are asking the community to come out and support this because we know that Chico and we in Chico support those things that are right." says church member Pedro Douglas.

At 7 PM Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church members will be hosting a prayer and moment of silence. Built in 1867 Bethel is the oldest African American church in Butte County. It is located at 821 Linden Street in Chico. Church leaders say everyone in the community is invited to the prayer gathering.
