Chico Becky Knokin and Britta Muff have been up for the past 24 hours, just trying to make sense of it all.
"It was just a big poof of smoke and a lot of chaos," Muff said.
The Chico-based runners crossed the Boston Marathon finish line just minutes before the bombings.
"The first explosion everyone was kind of confused and the second one everyone just started running," Muff recalled.
These women are part of the Chico Fleet Feet training program, which sent nine local runners to Monday's race.
On Tuesday, Konkin and Muff were on a plane for Northern California.
"Total relief," said Konkin about returning to Chico. "(We're) just glad to be reunited with our families."
