A disturbing elder abuse case is under investigation in Chico. The Chico Police Detective Bureau started an investigation into the report of an extensive financial abuse case involving an 82 year old victim in July of 2015. The victim's son posted an ad on Care.Com searching for a caregiver for his ailing mother. The ad was answered by Connie Lynn Ogle, 37, of Magalia .

Police say Ogle portrayed herself as a care provider with extensive experience with in home health services. Ogle was hired and immediately started caring for the victim. Shortly after that, the victim discovered someone had opened multiple credit cards in her name. Police believe while Ogle was supposed to be caring for the victim she accessed the victim's mail and stole personal information which allowed her to open up fraudulent accounts.

During the investigation, investigators discovered a mountain of evidence showing Ogle had taken advantage of several other elderly victims after she was hired as a caregiver. Police suspect Ogle was hired as a caregiver and immediately started stealing the identities of these elderly victims to obtain fraudulent credit cards and other financial benefits. After a lengthy 9 month investigation, Chico Police Detectives along with BINTF and the Chico Police Target Team, served multiple search warrants at an address in Magalia and two locations in Chico. Police say they recovered a large amount of evidence proving that Connie stole the identities of these elderly victims. In addition, officers seized 85 pounds of processed marijuana, nearly $27,000. in cash and multiple firearms. Ogle was later arrested in Lake County and faces multiple charges of burglary, identity theft, elder abuse, possession of marijuana for sale and being a felon in possession of a firearm. She was booked into the Butte County Jail.

Police believe Ogle likely stole the identity of other victims, who have yet to notice or contact police. Police have since identified 6 victims in Butte County, 2 in Napa County and 2 more in Nevada County. Police are asking anyone who has hired Connie Ogle as a caregiver and have been the victim of identity theft, to contact the Chico Police Department Detective Bureau at (530) 897-5820.
