Chico Police Investigate Attempted Sexual Assault on Bike Trail

Chico Police responded to an attempted sexual assault of a minor at 10:41 a.m. Monday. The incident happened on the bike path, at the Lindo Channel, near the Esplanade.

Officers contacted the victim and learned she had been riding her bicycle, northbound across the Lindo Channel bike path. As she crossed the bridge, she was knocked off her bike by the unknown suspect. The suspect attempted to remove the victim's clothing. The victim struggled with the suspect and was able to escape. The victim fled northbound to seek help. The suspect was last seen running south toward the Esplanade.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic or American Indian male, 19-20 years old, 5'8" with a skinny build. The suspect was wearing a green shirt, blue jeans and was clean shaven. The suspect may have left the area in a dark colored sedan but that information has not been confirmed.

The victim was taken to an area hospital where she was treated for minor injuries. The suspect is still at large. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the Chico Police Department Detective Bureau at (530)897-4920.
