The Chico Police Department says information passed along through a new social media app led to the arrest of four habitual drug offenders.
Police say information about illegal activity at an apartment on Greenwich Drive has been submitted to the department through the Nextdoor app since its launch in September. Additionally, officers have responded to an abundance of calls at the home in the last year.
In response to the complaints, Butte County probation officers searched the area last Tuesday and arrested Jorge Ramirez, 35; Theresa Shawver, 47; Stephen Jones, 58; and Trevor Thompson, 38 on various violations.
In an effort to get better connected with the community, the Chico Police Department joined Nextdoor.com in September. Nextdoor is a social network that provides a platform for neighbors to communicate with each other on a number of topics, including neighborhood crime.
The department says the app helps officers get ahead of crime by targeting specific areas.
