The City of Chico and Chico Police Department officials are taking another step forward in their plans to make the bike paths throughout the city a little bit safer.

The project will begin by installing self-contained safety cameras on the bike path from Big Chico Creek to West Sacramento Avenue.

Police and city officials believe the camera system will help to make the bike path a safer place to travel for students, citizens and bicyclists as a crime deterrent, identification of suspects.

In addition, the Chico Police Department will be collaborating with Chico State University on this project.

Chico City Council approved the project Feb 16 to move forward while being funded by donations.

An account has been set up with the North Valley Community Foundation under the Chico Police Bike Path Safety Project. Anyone interested in donating can visit the website by clicking here.
