A big anouncement from the Chico Police Department. Chico's Chief of Police is retiring. Kirk Trostle has sent a letter of intent to retire to the city council. Trostle's last day will be December 30th.

Chico City Manager Mark Orme told Action News Now this evening that the recruitment process for a new chief will start in January. An interim chief will be named until the new chief is hired. Orme said Trostle made the decision on his own.

Sources close to the 50-year old Trostle say he had to make the choice between family and health and the job and he chose family.

Trostle has been with the Chico Police Department for two years, but has been in law enforcement 28 years.
