Police busted a small auto theft ring after witnesses saw the suspects attempt to steal another vehicle Sunday evening in Chico.

Chico Police officers responded to an attempted vehicle burglary near the 2300 block of Norte Dam Boulevard Sunday evening. Witness said they saw two men leaving the area of the vehicle on foot.

Officers approached Timothy Delong, 30, in the area. Delong admitted to the officers that he had been driving the vehicle in question, a Toyota 4Runner. Officers later located another suspect, Justin Bradley, 25, at the 4Runner, which was located in the WinCo parking lot.

Once both suspects were in custody, officers found multiple “shaved” keys, general keys shaved down to allow access to cars of the same model, presumably, to steal items in the car or the car itself.

Officers recovered multiple vehicles that they believe were stolen by the suspects. Both suspects were sent to Butte County Jail. Delong’s bail was set at $36,000 while Bradley’s bail was $60,000.

Both suspects are facing multiple counts of car theft. Related investigations are ongoing, and additional charges may be requested from the Butte County District Attorney’s office at a later date.
