Chico Police say two men are in custody for the Armed Robbery of a Chico State student. The information was sent out in a news release today, even though the suspects have been behind bars for more than a week.
Police say the crime occurred at 11:30 p.m. on April 15th on the 700 block of Oak Street.
The victim said he was walking home from campus when he was approached from behind. He heard the “racking action” sound of a handgun and turned to see two black men, with one pointing a gun at him. They demanded his backpack and cell phone and then told the victim to run away or be shot. He ran to safety and then called police to report the crime.
Investigators traced a GPS app on the stolen phone to an apartment on Nord Avenue. They arrived within minutes and knocked at the door but there was no answer. The SWAT team was called in, and after a search warrant was obtained officers arrested 20 year old John Miles Staton II.
The other suspect, 20 year old Jerrel Lawfawn Blasher, was arrested on April 19th.
Police say the handgun believed to be used in the robbery was recovered from the apartment during execution of the search warrant.
