Chico PD Searches for Suspects Who Stole $5K from Victim in Craigslist Deal Gone Bad

A Chico man is out $5,000 after two suspects robbed him at knife point during a meeting for a Craigslist deal for a car.

According to Chico Police, the victim placed an ad on Craigslist stating he had $5,000 dollars in cash to buy a car. The victim received a response which asked him to meet at the Valero gas station on 8th and Bartlett Streets in Chico today. The victim showed up to the Valero station this afternoon in a car he borrowed from a relative with the money in his wallet.

Two suspects then approached in a 90’s gold Buick Lesabre, one of the men reportedly exited the vehicle and entered the victim’s car. During their discussion the suspect brandished a knife and demanded the cash. The suspect and the victim struggled until the suspect escaped and drove away with the victim’s wallet containing the $5,000 in cash. The victim suffered minor cuts to his hands.

The victim described the suspects as two Hispanic men in their mid-20s with one having a Mohawk. The victim is 21-years-old and his name is not being released at this time. The victim also told police one of the suspects may have had a handgun.
