A fiery crash near the intersection of Vallambrosa Avenue and Lilac Lane claimed the life of an adult male, according to the Chico Police Department. Officers were dispatched to the scene just after 3 a.m. this morning.
The Chico Police Department stated in a press release the victim’s green Mini Cooper was traveling at a high rate of speed through the intersection at Lilac Lane when it went into south edge of the roadway and struck a tree head-on. When officers arrived they found the car on fire. The Fire Department soon arrived to extinguish the flames and rescue the driver, who was the sole occupant. Despite their efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver has only been identified as a white adult male and his name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is leading the investigation. The department has yet to determine why the vehicle may have left the roadway or if alcohol was a factor. Anyone who witnessed the accident is urged to contact the Chico Police Department.
