The Chico Police Department is searching for five white males in connection to an alleged armed robbery at the Heritage Inn this morning.

Just after 6:30 a.m. Monday morning Chico Police received a report of multiple people with firearms had forced their way into a room at the Heritage Inn Express located at 725 Broadway St. Responding officers found one of the victims at a nearby gas station. The victim told officers the door to his hotel room was kicked in and he was assaulted by multiple people. Some of the assailants were reported to have both handguns and “long guns”, either shotguns or rifles.

The victim was able to escape and flee the room. The department’s press release stated they believe only one shot was fired during the reported robbery but no one was reported to have been injured. Detectives found the single bullet in a void space next to a storage room.

Detectives believe a second victim was also confronted by the suspects in the parking lot moments before the robbery commenced. Though that victim has been spoken to by at least one person they know, he has reportedly refused to cooperate with investigators likely because of his connection with the marijuana business.

“We believe the second victim was confronted and possibly assaulted by the suspects, but he refuses to cooperate because he is tied up in the marijuana business,” said Sgt. Scott Franssen of the Chico Police Department. “The majority of these types of robberies are due to marijuana, and the people in this business are criminals themselves dealing with criminal elements so they are not always up front about what happened.”

Franssen further stated it remains unknown how much money and marijuana, if any, was stolen from the hotel room.

The only descriptions of the assailants released by the department are they were five white males wearing dark clothing with hoods. Franssen said detectives believe the suspects arrived and fled in a car, but do not have enough to confidently release a description of the vehicle.

Anyone who may have seen any part of this incident is encouraged to contact the Chico Police Department's Detective Bureau at 897-5820.
