Chico police officer Frank Deshler was injured Wednesday afternoon while pursuing a man on foot. Investigators say Deshler tried to pull over a man on a bicycle for failing to yield near the Wells Fargo Bank on Memorial Way. Instead of pulling over, they say the man took off on his bike, pedaling through the campus of Chico Junior High. Officer Deshler followed him in his patrol car, until the suspect ditched his bicycle, then began running through backyards and over fences. Deshler got out of the patrol car and began chasing the suspect on foot. Sgt. Rob Merrifield says somehow Deshler injured his mouth while pursuing the man. At least one more officer joined the chase, and they finally caught up with the suspect at the 1,000 block of Esplanade. They shouted at the man to stop running, but he refused, so they tased him and brought him in to custody. Officer Deshler went to the hospital to get checked out. Investigators say Daniel Hensley, 30, has been arrested on suspicion of Parole Warrant, Possession of Burglary Tools, and Resisting Arrest w/Serious Bodily Injury to a Police Officer.
