A man who stabbed a man in the back at a downtown Chico bar, then fired shots into a crowd on Broadway Street when he was on parole for the stabbing, was sentenced to 25 years and eight months in State Prison Wednesday.

On May 18, 2013, 25-year-old Anthony Zeigler got into an altercation with a man at a downtown bar. When the man left the bar, Zeigler walked up behind him and stabbed him in the back.

Then on January 18, 2014, while Zeigler was out on bail for the stabbing, he fired a semiautomatic firearm down a sidewalk on Broadway Street at a group of men he had been fighting. The bullet struck an innocent bystander in the right knee.

A Butte County Judge ordered that Zeigler pay $10,444.06 restitution to the bystander and he will not be eligible for parole until he's served 85 percent of his sentence.
