A Chico man accused of murdering his wife last September will be held for trial, a Butte County Judge said Wednesday.

Zir Weems, who is charged with murder in the death of his wife Angelica Weems, appeared in court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.

Several local law enforcement agents took the stand Wednesday, including a deputy with the Butte County Sheriff's Office, who testified that Angelica Weems' autopsy results were consistent with manual strangulation. Prosecutors also presented surveillance footage that showed Weems and her children the day the she went missing.

During testimony, investigators said Angelica's mother told them she would often find her daughter with bruises on her arms and neck. One investigator said Angelica missed work frequently, but it was her husband who would call in for her.

Angelica Weems was reported missing on September 14th. Her body was found by family members near the Sacramento River on October 5th.

Zir Weems has plead not guilty and a trial date will be set on February 26.
