Chico Library facing cuts

The city of Chico is expected to cut $25,000 from the library, meaning the hours may soon be cut.

The lack of funding would result in the Chico Library closing down on Mondays. Over the last 10 years, the city has provided funding for the Chico branch to be open nearly 25 hours longer than other large branches.

Ann Elliott, with Chico friends of the library says her organization does not want to get in the business of providing open hours. "We provide thousands of dollars to this library per year in media and services but paying for salaries is something that should be handled by government agencies".

Anyone interested in helping the library maintain their current hours of operation should contact the Chico Library.
