The City of Chico along with the Chamber of Commerce set a positive tone for the Business Summit and State of the City Address Wednesday.

However, in order to discuss any progress council first had to discuss deficits.

Although they've reduced a $7.8 million deficit to $2.8 million, increased employment as well as building and residential permits, the economic state of the city is far from recovered.

Last year brought significant layoffs and reassignments for city workers and there's still no operating reserve money. Mayor Sorensen says despite the deficit he's confident about bringing the city back to where it needs to be economically.

Sorensen went on to talk about public safety and how he's confident that newly appointed Interim Police Chief Mike Dunbaugh will set road to recovery for the Police Department.

Another point of interest, Chico Business. Owners took a confidence survey showing they feel good about their prospects for 2015.
