Ronald Palmer, who was well known around Chico as "Roundhouse Ronny the Clown" and the voice of the Silver Dollar Fair died in a rafting accident in northern Colorado Tuesday.

Authorities say Palmer, 76, died after falling from a commercial raft into the Pourdre River. He was found quickly, but was unresponsive. Deputies and medical personnel performed CPR, but Palmer was declared dead at a local hospital. An autopsy performed Wednesday concluded the cause of death was a heart attack triggered by the cold water.

Palmer worked for KHSL-TV in the days of black and white, and then hosted his own children's show before handling community affairs. He was named an "Official Chico Icon" by the Facebook group "You Know You're From Chico When" in 2012.

At this time there is no word on when a memorial service will be held.
