A Chico man who was forced from his home by a fire late Monday night, returned home this morning to find that he had been burglarized.

The fire broke out at Phillip Thompson's house on the 800 block of W. Sacramento Avenue just before midnight Monday.

The blaze broke out in the attic and Chico fire crews were able to keep it from spreading through the rest of the house, but despite the quick response, officials still suggested Thompson find another place to stay temporarily.

Thompson told Action News Now, police contacted him this morning, saying some suspicious activity had been reported near his house. He returned home a short time later and found that thieves had made off with thousands of dollars' worth of property including three televisions, two computers, a gaming system and a collection of historic coins.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Chico Police Department, and Thompson's employer ‘Red Room Tattoo' in Chico is offering a $500 reward for any information that leads to the recovery of the stolen property.
