It was a bitter sweet day for those at Chico High School as they bid farewell to the school's long-time receptionist of 32 years.
Mary sours has been a fixture at Chico High School welcoming students, parents and guests with her special brand of southern hospitality.
Students, staff and friends surprised sours with an assembly. This is the first time the school has done something so special for a staff member. They wanted to show their appreciation and how much they will miss seeing her smiling face every day.
"She's such a special person, it's a once in a lifetime person and you just really have to, you know, she really is the heart and soul of this school," said Keith Rollins, a teacher at Chico High.
Sours said she enjoyed celebrating on her special day.
“It makes me feel like I’m queen of the world, it makes me feel so special," she said.
Sours last day was Thursday and she said what she'll miss the most is seeing the students every single day.
