The former manager of a Chico Florist shop was sentenced to federal prison Thursday after he was found guilty of five tax-related felonies in May.

According to a Department of Justice news release, 70-year-old James Molen will serve three years in federal prison for dodging taxes, defying court orders, and retaliating against federal officials.

Evidence proved that starting in 2000 Molen stopped withholding and paying federal employment and unemployment taxes. After years of collection efforts by the I.R.S. Molen filed false liens in 2004 against people who had been involved in his case.

Following his prison sentence Molen will serve three years of supervised release.
