Firefighters from Chico Fire Engine 2 responded to a vehicle fire at 811 W. 2nd Avenue just before 5 a.m. this morning and found a white Dodge Grand Caravan with its engine in flames.

Chico Fire officials stated this afternoon the fire was predominately burning in the van’s engine block but was beginning to burn into the passenger compartment before firefighters quickly extinguished the flames.

Chico Police Officers also responded to the scene but after knocking on several doors they could not locate the owner of the van.

The fire did threaten buildings at the nearby apartment complex but only minor heat damage was reported on vehicles near the van.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
