Chico Fire Dept to honor local hero by hosting Navy SEAL workout

This weekend Chico Firefighters are going to do "The Murph" workout to raise money for the Matthew Axelson Foundation.

What's the Murph?

Once you run one mile, do 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and run one more mile, you've completed the "Murph" workout.

If you go to NorCal Strength and Conditioning this Saturday, you'll get to see Chico Firefighters along with anyone who wants to participate doing this Navy SEAL workout. It's all to raise money for the Matthew Axelson Foundation.

They were inspired by the book, Lone Survivor. It recounts the mission of four Navy SEALs who were part of Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan. After being ambushed, three of them, including Chico Native Matt Axelson made the ultimate sacrifice.

Matt's brother Jeff along with his wife Cindy created the Matthew Axelson Foundation to support veterans and their families. Because Cindy is a coach at NorCal Strength and Conditioning, holding the event here has a special meaning.
This Saturday marks the 9th anniversary of Operation Red Wings. So Chico Fire along with NorCal Strength and conditioning are teaming up to raise money in Matt's honor. This is a family friendly event and people of all physical fitness backgrounds are welcome to join.

Chico Firefighters along with Norcal strength and conditioning would like to thank Vietnam Veterans Of America 582 INC. for their support and large donation.
