More than 400 people packed Norcal Strength & Conditioning to help honor local hero Matt Axelson. The Chico Fire Department along with the gym hosted a Navy SEAL workout called "The Murph" to help raise money for the Matthew Axelson Foundation.

In response to the turnout, Cindy Axelson said she was extremely humbled and overwhelmed by the support.

It was 9 years ago today that her husband, Matt Axelson, made the ultimate sacrifice as part of "Operation Red Wings" in Afghanistan. Since then, Matt's brother along with his wife Cindy created the Matthew Axelson Foundation to support veterans and their families.

People of all ages and fitness backgrounds came together to show their support. Whether they were doing "The Murph," or just joining in on the festivities, today proved that Chico has a great sense of community.

The Chico Fire Department tells us they plan on making this event a success for years to come.
