The Chico Farmers Market was granted a six-year lease and additional space at its current East 2nd and Wall Streets location at Tuesday's city council meeting.
The current lease agreement was set to expire at the end of this year.
The new agreement will last through December 2020 with the potential for eight-year renewals.
The Chico group Friends of the Farmers Market, filed a petition in January asking that the voters decide the issue in November. The group collected more than the required signatures for the petition and the county clerk-recorder verified the validity of the signatures.
If the issue appeared on the November ballot it could have cost the city up to $10,000.
Last month interim City Manager Mark Orme submitted a proposal to the Chico Farmers Market with four options. Options presented include continuing in their current location, considering the option of switching days, and giving the CCFM an option to consider alternative locations.
