Eric Eltzroth is a dentist by day, forensic detective by night. The Chico dentist has been helping police identify human remains through dental records for years.

Dr. Eltzroth has been practicing dentistry for 20 years, but for the last 15 he's worked side-by-side with law enforcement, helping identify the bodies of people involved in unthinkable tragedies.

He began forensic work in the days following 9/11, when he worked for two weeks identifying hundreds of the unidentifiable bodies at ground zero.

Last week the Glenn County Sheriff's Office came calling. Human remains had been found near Orland High School on New Year's Eve and detectives had no leads. Dr. Eltzroth was able to identify the remains as those of 55-year-old Thomas Jay Daugherty.

Eltzroth says it's gratifying to bring closure to families that may wondering what happened to love ones.
