A Chico couple is relieved to be home after Hurricane Odile slammed into the Mexican peninsula, turning their vacation into a nightmare.
Sonia and Joe Morgan were visiting family in La Paz, Mexico when the category 4 Hurricane Odile hit Cabo San Lucas, just 90 miles away.
The Morgan's, unlike a lot of American tourists, say they were lucky to be staying with family, but the trip home was far from easy.
The Morgan's were forced to decide between waiting at the airport for an unknown amount of time, or taking a dangerous 38 hour bus ride to Tijuana, the risk of getting stuck very high because a second storm was set to hit on Friday.
They chose the bus, but after ten hours they were stopped by flooding, then delayed the next day by an overturned diesel.
When they finally made it to the bus terminal, they took a cab to the border where they crossed back into the United States on foot.
After crossing back into the U.S. friends in San Diego helped them to the airport where they were able to catch a flight to Sacramento, they arrived home in Chico four days later than expected, but relieved to be home.
