The Chico City Council will be discussing what to do with the so-called Bidwell Ranch property north of Bidwell Park Tuesday.
The city has owned the land since 1997, a cost to tax payers of about $7 million, but since then it has been periodically leased to cattle ranchers and has been off-limit to Chico residents.
Councilmembers are expected to discuss several options, including maintaining the land as open space, and later selling credits to developers looking to mitigate environmental impacts for their projects.
A city staff report does mention, however, that it could take a while longer until the 756 acres would be open for public use.
