Chico City Council Candidates address public safety

Public Safety was the topic of discussion Monday night during the Chico City Council Candidate Forum, hosted by the Chico Police Association.

The seven city council candidates answered questions on the transient issue in downtown Chico and how they would address the problem. Candidates proposed working closely with University Police, specifically having them respond to calls around the campus area.

Candidates also suggested officials take advantage of already existing laws such as the sit-lie ordinance that was passed earlier this year.

Peter Durfee, President of the Chico Police Officers Association, said the forum is big help to the association and lets officers know who has the best vision for Chico.

The Police Officers Association will publicly endorse City Council Candidates in the upcoming days.
